HARMONY addresses the critical challenge of recycling Neodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB) magnets, which are fundamental to modern clean energy technologies. The project aims to develop a safe, eco-friendly, and integrated closed-loop recycling system that can handle diverse waste streams, from small consumer electronics to large-scale industrial scrap. By validating these processes at a pilot scale, HARMONY seeks to strengthen European industrial independence and ensure that rare earth metals are effectively diverted from landfills back into the manufacturing value chain. The project utilizes a combination of direct and indirect recycling technologies to produce high-quality recycled NdFeB powder with properties comparable to virgin materials. Beyond the technical scope, HARMONY incorporates rigorous Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) and social innovation strategies to overcome market barriers. This comprehensive approach ensures that the resulting technologies are not only technically feasible but also socially acceptable and economically competitive in a global market.
