Re-imagining environmental law – jettisoning the past
Duncan French (Professor of International Law) @Prof_Dfrench
Environmental law has grown tremendously in scope and depth in the past 50 years. Few other areas of regulation have grown so fast and so far, in such a short time. Underpinned by a range of principles – precaution, prevention, sustainable development – the law now seeks to address many of the fundamental challenges of our modern age. And yet, is it enough? As environmental conditions worsen, and we enter into the new age of the Anthropocene, will the very rules and structures that have so far not prevented the environment deteriorating give us the tools as we see further and deeper changes?

This talk will describe the symptoms and course of the illness - causes remain unclear and way above my pay-grade - mostly I will talk about treatment - past, present and into the future

Gavin Harper (Energy Development Manager)

As we move toward a transport system aligned to electric vehicles the challenges of how to deal with the eventual recycling seem a long way off but the decisions we make now will have a significant impact on future generations.
