Man asks if you want PC on your motorbike
GAVIN "DJ" Harper told the INQ yesterday that modding motor cars with PC technology is the wave of the future.
The man said that McGraw Hill is set to release a book he's written which has 50 "incredible" car projects including building "cantennae", controlling your car using a PDA, installing an in-car PC, creating "intelligent" wipers, and setting up an in-car surround system.
This last one is quite contentious. Residents in quiet London streets have recently complained about motor cars with hydraulics which hoist up external speakers and deliver a brain shattering decibel level disturbing peoples' snoozes. There has even been talk of issuing dreaded "ASBOs" - anti-social behaviour orders - to stop the dreadful racket.
But that's nothing to do with Gavin and his book. He is a softly spoken chap, who points out that it's important that people use machines in a responsible manner. There should, he said, be a balance between car users and pedestrians. Public transport in Britain, he says, doesn't present a viable alternative for most people and forces them onto the road.
The book, 50 Awesome Prokects for the Evil Genius, will be out in October, cost £15, has 150 illustrations and can be ordered using its ISBN 0071458239 code.
